The devils double

If you’ve never seen the movie, “The Devils Double”, you should. It’s such a great movie. It first released last year in the 2011 Sundance film festival and then later released to select theathers in the United States on July 9th. The movie is a biographical film so it’s based on a true story. It’s about a solider for the Iraqi army named Latif Yahia. Latif get’s called in to the house of Uday Hussein (Saddam Hussein’s son) because Uday believes that they look so much alike that he wants Latif to become his double. A double is basically like a clone of the first person. They’re used so if an assignation attempt happens, it’ll only kill the double instead of the real one. Also it helps for making many appearances at many different places quickly. Latif tries to refuse, because accepting the offer would mean he would have to throw away his entire life. He wouldn’t even be able to tell his family what’s happening to him. They would just have to think that he died. But Uday, always having to get what he wants, does not take no for an answer and basically kidnaps Latif, and beats him until he agree’s to do so. Now at first, I couldn’t of been that bad, considering to really be somones double, they have to life the life of the real thing. So Latif, who last week was a poor solider, is now living the life of extreme wealth and luxuries. It’s not untill a little later when Latif realizes the true sadistic nature inside Uday when he see’s Uday kidnap a 14 year old school girl off the street, in broad daylight infront of everyone. He kidnapped her so she could escort him to a party that night. While at the party, Uday get’s even crazier, when he guts one of his fathers most trusted workers with a electric cutting knife in front of all the guests, because he called Uday a “fag”. The movie pretty much goes on like that for a bit, till Latif runs away. More stuff happens after he runs but I wouldn’t want to ruin the very amazing ending for those who never seen it. But what I liked most about the movie, was the acting. Both Uday and Latif were played by the same person, Dominic Cooper. The difference between the two of them are like day an night. While Uday, he’s a sadistic lunatic mad with power (from his dad) but while Latif, he’s smart, calm, has integrity, as he’s often offered by Uday to either kill someone of offered some girls (not by there consent) but he always refuses. It’s really an amazing movie and if you never seen it you should!

  1. That sounds like a pretty interesting movie. I never seen or heard of it but by the sounds of it, it sounds like a movie worth the watch. I do like the idea of an actor playing two main roles which are complete opposites of each other.

  4. It does sound like a good movie and I would totally like to watch it, but doesn't anyone else think that the whole "find someone else that looks like you to take your place is a little overused"
