If you’ve never seen the movie, “The Devils Double”, you
should. It’s such a great movie. It first released last year in the 2011
Sundance film festival and then later released to select theathers in the
United States on July 9th. The movie is a biographical film so it’s
based on a true story. It’s about a solider for the Iraqi army named Latif
Yahia. Latif get’s called in to the house of Uday Hussein (Saddam Hussein’s
son) because Uday believes that they look so much alike that he wants Latif to
become his double. A double is basically like a clone of the first person.
They’re used so if an assignation attempt happens, it’ll only kill the double
instead of the real one. Also it helps for making many appearances at many
different places quickly. Latif tries to refuse, because accepting the offer
would mean he would have to throw away his entire life. He wouldn’t even be
able to tell his family what’s happening to him. They would just have to think
that he died. But Uday, always having to get what he wants, does not take no
for an answer and basically kidnaps Latif, and beats him until he agree’s to do
so. Now at first, I couldn’t of been that bad, considering to really be somones
double, they have to life the life of the real thing. So Latif, who last week was
a poor solider, is now living the life of extreme wealth and luxuries. It’s not
untill a little later when Latif realizes the true sadistic nature inside Uday
when he see’s Uday kidnap a 14 year old school girl off the street, in broad
daylight infront of everyone. He kidnapped her so she could escort him to a
party that night. While at the party, Uday get’s even crazier, when he guts one
of his fathers most trusted workers with a electric cutting knife in front of
all the guests, because he called Uday a “fag”. The movie pretty much goes on
like that for a bit, till Latif runs away. More stuff happens after he runs but
I wouldn’t want to ruin the very amazing ending for those who never seen it.
But what I liked most about the movie, was the acting. Both Uday and Latif were
played by the same person, Dominic Cooper. The difference between the two of
them are like day an night. While Uday, he’s a sadistic lunatic mad with power
(from his dad) but while Latif, he’s smart, calm, has integrity, as he’s often
offered by Uday to either kill someone of offered some girls (not by there
consent) but he always refuses. It’s really an amazing movie and if you never
seen it you should!

riches
“The prettiest people do the ugliest things, for the road to
riches or diamond rings” –Kanye West. Growing up, I always thought about how
different my life would be if I were rich and famous. And when I say rich, I
mean RICH. Like so much money I wouldn’t even know what to do with it all rich.
So rich I would never have to work another day in my life. Even my
grandchildren will be set for their lives. I’m talking about so much money I wouldn’t
be able to blow it all if I tried, and trust me, I will try. Honestly, I would
probably give a considerable amount to charities that I like, and make sure all
of my family is living comfortably, but after that I would just go nuts.
Parting in a different city every night. I would have the fanciest clothes, fastest
cars, and prettiest girls by my side. Every night would be a new adventure. No
more staying up till the wee hours of the morning studying for lame biology
tests. Or having to write two editorial papers in one day, followed with
another 500-word blog the next day. Now do not get me wrong, an education is
very important, but if I already had the money college would not be for me.
Honestly the only reason why I am here is so I could get a good degree, which
would hopefully make me be able to get a good job. But if I were already rich,
then why would I want a job? I certainly wouldn’t need it. There would be no
point. It would only stress me out for nothing. But if I did have the money,
one of the many things that I would love to do would to go backpacking all throughout
the world. Except Russia. I don’t think anyone really wants to go to Russia.
Pretty sure the people that already live in Russia don’t want to go there. But
still, it would be amazing to be able to just travel through parts of the world
like Europe, South America, India, Canada, Alaska, maybe even Australia.
Although Australia would probably be beautiful, 97% of all the deadly animals
that I am terrified of live there, so I should probably do my best to try and
avoid it. But still, I feel like it would be so beneficial to experience how
other people around the world live. To see first hand their ways of life. So
far I can only imagine how different their lives are compared to most of us
here in the United States. But one day, rich or not, I will travel the world
and see all the beautiful sights the world has to offer me.

Biology... My favorite class ever...
“Sickle cell
hemoglobin forms as a result of:
A: A mutation in the
peptide
B: A mutation in the
amino Acid
C: A mutation in the
DNA”
Now if you’re staring at this question with absolutely no
idea what the answer is, don’t feel bad, cause you’re defiantly not alone. I
hate biology. So much in fact, I feel its necessary to say it twice… I HATE
BIOLOGY!!!! Not only do I not like the material, but also my professor is as
boring as she could be. Like seriously, there’s no way this class could be any
more boring, or for another class to be as boring as this. If anyone out there
reading this blog thinks they’re in the most boring biology class, then I would
love to challenge that…and you know what that means right? BORING BIOLOGY FACE
OFF!!!! WOOO! Haha great idea right? I should make that into a game show some
day. Watch out Family feud. But no seriously, this class is easily my least
favorite class out of the week; and of course I’ll have it at 9 am when I’m
barely awake. It would be a lot better if I had my fun, amazingly interesting
English class this early so at least I would have the slightest interest in
actually waking up. All my biology professor does is lector and read off of PowerPoints.
That by itself is pretty boring, but it’s not over yet, because she has the
most monotone voice I’ve ever heard! Granted, this is a class of almost 300
students, but still, it doesn’t have to be this boring. There has to be some
way for her to make this more interesting. Show some videos, crack some bio
jokes, at least put some transitions on the slides! Transitions could always
make a boring PowerPoint slide interesting. The information would still be
boring, but at least it would be flashy and fun to look at. Which in turn,
might actually get me to pay attention to the information, since I’m already
looking up. One of the only good things about this class is that I actually get
a lot of work done in there. Not biology work though. Pretty much any other
class I have work due in. I figure I’m not paying attention to her anyway, so I
may as well make something productive come from this. And that’s actually
something pretty special, to bore a kid so much into making him do work. I’m actually writing this blog from her class
right now. But all in all, her class isn’t THAT bad. Her tests aren’t killer
and it’s not like she assigns hours of homework every night; and we don’t have
to maintain some type of blog every week… So keep doing what you’re doing Ms.
Biology Professor, ‘cause you do it well.

College..
As my high school years were coming to an end, I
always pictured how college life would be like. Would I make friends quickly?
Would I be drowned by the workloads? Would I be smart enough to handle the
work? Would I have fun? Would I even enjoy it?! Even with all these fears and
anxieties, not even an hour after arriving at the wonderful campus of Virginia Tech, I knew it’s going to be
something I will love. I immediately met so many cool ass people. Everywhere I
go I meet extremely friendly Hokies. From the people in my dorm, to people I
meet on the basketball courts (Tim), to just any random person walking around. So far, one of the only downsides is that I’m living in an all male dorm, so
needless to say there are not many girls walking around. But many of guys in my
dorm are very chill and fun to be around, so it ALMOST makes up for not having
any girls walking around. But by far, the greatest part of being here is…. Wait
for it… NO PARENTS. After eight-teen years of living by my parents rules and
regulations, finally sweet freedom, and trust me, it’s sweet. No more having to
ask my mom if it’s okay to bring friends over. You want to hangout in my dorm?
Come on over! 4 am? Not a problem (Try not to wake my roommate though.) A
curfew? Forget-about-it! (New York accent) There’ll be nights I probably won’t
even make it back. I’m finally living by my own rules; doing what I want, when
I want, with whomever I want to do it with. College life is amazing. But there
is more to life in college than just hangin’ around with the homies. There's also
the studious, academic part to it as well. That includes dragging myself out of
bed and running across the drill field to make it to some of those earlier 9 am
classes; actually using my laptop for taking notes and looking up PowerPoints,
rather than looking at Emily’s latest pictures on Facebook, or downloading Wiz
Khalifa’s newest album; taking the time out of my day to go to the library or
someplace quiet to study for my biology test; and even waiting for the bus to
venture across campus to the Math Empo. to take quizzes. Most of which however,
is fairly new to me, considering that I made it all the way through high school
without studying or putting in the extra time and effort to strive for an A.
But here I’m looking to change that. Will it be easy? More than likely no, but
most goals in life aren’t; and attaining a degree in a field of study that
interests me is defiantly a goal that is worth persevering for. Hanging in for
four of what’s sure to be some of the best years of my life, to pave the way
for my future, and ultimately a happy life.
