College..

As my high school years were coming to an end, I always pictured how college life would be like. Would I make friends quickly? Would I be drowned by the workloads? Would I be smart enough to handle the work? Would I have fun? Would I even enjoy it?! Even with all these fears and anxieties, not even an hour after arriving at the wonderful campus of Virginia Tech,  I knew it’s going to be something I will love. I immediately met so many cool ass people. Everywhere I go I meet extremely friendly Hokies. From the people in my dorm, to people I meet on the basketball courts (Tim), to just any random person walking around. So far, one of the only downsides is that I’m living in an all male dorm, so needless to say there are not many girls walking around. But many of guys in my dorm are very chill and fun to be around, so it ALMOST makes up for not having any girls walking around. But by far, the greatest part of being here is…. Wait for it… NO PARENTS. After eight-teen years of living by my parents rules and regulations, finally sweet freedom, and trust me, it’s sweet. No more having to ask my mom if it’s okay to bring friends over. You want to hangout in my dorm? Come on over! 4 am? Not a problem (Try not to wake my roommate though.) A curfew? Forget-about-it! (New York accent) There’ll be nights I probably won’t even make it back. I’m finally living by my own rules; doing what I want, when I want, with whomever I want to do it with. College life is amazing. But there is more to life in college than just hangin’ around with the homies. There's also the studious, academic part to it as well. That includes dragging myself out of bed and running across the drill field to make it to some of those earlier 9 am classes; actually using my laptop for taking notes and looking up PowerPoints, rather than looking at Emily’s latest pictures on Facebook, or downloading Wiz Khalifa’s newest album; taking the time out of my day to go to the library or someplace quiet to study for my biology test; and even waiting for the bus to venture across campus to the Math Empo. to take quizzes. Most of which however, is fairly new to me, considering that I made it all the way through high school without studying or putting in the extra time and effort to strive for an A. But here I’m looking to change that. Will it be easy? More than likely no, but most goals in life aren’t; and attaining a degree in a field of study that interests me is defiantly a goal that is worth persevering for. Hanging in for four of what’s sure to be some of the best years of my life, to pave the way for my future, and ultimately a happy life.

  1. College is indeed a place where we can meet new people, have fun, and get a taste what it is to live without our parents. I was also a bit nervous when I first came here because I was also worried about meeting new people, but like your blog says, we can meet many different in different ways.
